HTML5: The new language

The current HTML standard 4.01 is ten years old. In this time, the Internet has become rich with multimedia and interactivity. So it’s definitely time for change! Videos are really popular on the web, so it should come as no surprise that sites like YouTube, Dailymotion and Vimeo are among the first few sites to integrate the new HTML5 standard. HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language, the language in which the basics of the Internet are written. The standard specifies rules according to which this happens. Since Web browser engines need to be adapted to this, four of the big browser manufacturers (not including Microsoft), developed HTML5 comprising of numerous new functions that help close the long gap between being a document-oriented markup language as it has traditionally been, to becoming an application-oriented one, as the modern web demands. Many can now dream of a revolution on the web. Videos without Flash The core of HTML5 is better integration of multimedia content. So far, browser plug-ins such as Adobe’s Flash Player have been needed to play video and music. But these consume resources, are prone to crashes, and most importantly, are a safety risk. Flash, in particular, allows a lot of malware to creep into a PC. In spite of this, almost all big websites use it to incorporate video, interactive applications, and other imaginative content. HTML5 intends to make a difference here - the new

Caution! Kids Online

With the ever increasing number of children logging on to the web, software like the Onlinefamily from Norton comes in handy to keep a vigil on their online activities. In the real world, parents often drill words of caution into the minds of their young children, such as “don’t talk to strangers” and “don’t go there; it’s not safe”. But surprisingly, parents are not so foresighted when it comes to the cyber world, as they allow their children unrestricted access to the Web. Already, we are witnessing an increase in cyber crime, and what’s alarming is the rise in the number of children being victimized on the Web. It goes without saying that young children today are far more tech savvy then previous generations were at the same age. And by looking at Internet penetration figures, the growth in recent years speaks for itself. While parents today are concerned about the amount of time their children spend on the Internet, they do not seem to be concerned about what their children are doing when they’re online. A recent survey conducted by Norton in over 14 countries underlines some startling facts. According to the survey, over 77 percent of children in India have had a negative online experience. While the majority of parents believe that their children spend time playing games or doing school work, an astonishing 68 percent of children download music and video games online. This ever-increasing online presence exposes the children to threats such as identity theft, cyber bullying, stalking by pedophiles, etc. Over the years, we have witnessed several instances where adults posing as teenagers have befriended young children and have coerced them into inappropriate activities or even duped them into divulging sensitive financial details of their families. This is particularly dangerous since, according to the Norton Online Family Report 2010, children feel that their actions online will go unnoticed and cannot be traced back to them. The survey further reveals that not many of them are aware that few things are ever permanently deleted and that anything they say or do can come back to haunt them later. Just as there are set rules in physical environments, you need to set rules for the cyber world as well. And with this aim in mind, Norton has responded with a free Web monitoring tool called onlinefamily.norton.com. This service monitors Web surfing as well as instant message conversations and interactions on social networking sites. It allows you to create up to ten accounts and once activated, you will be able to see a list of all the websites visited by the user of each account. If you don’t like a particular site, you can easily block it and it even allows you to customize settings for each child’s account depending on his or her age. It also tracks words, terms and phrases your kids search for online, which gives you an idea about their online interests. Most importantly, it allows you to monitor their activities on social networking sites as well as online forums. You can easily monitor what they chat about and with whom. OnlineFamily also includes the option to allow users to chat only with people you explicitly approve of. As far as social networking sites are concerned, it gives you an overview of your child’s profiles and how they represent themselves (name, age, and profile picture). If you are worried about children spending a lot of time online, you can easily restrict that here by setting time limits for usage. Once the set limit has been crossed, it will automatically cause the system to shut down. You can continue to monitor their online activities when you are away as you will receive email alerts in case your child ignores a warning or tries to visit a blocked web site. This may seem like a spying tool, but unlike other monitoring sites, it’s not hidden and the children are aware of it, making it very transparent. Parents will have to communicate openly about safe Internet practices to ensure that children don’t feel like they aren’t trusted or their privacy isn’t being respected.

Be a Social Media Manager..!!

Be a Social Media Manager
If writing a blog comes naturally to you, if your Facebook profile is the center of activity, if you have a huge following on Twitter, if you have more videos on YouTube than your peers, then social media management is just the right career for you.

You will find that almost every brand today has a presence on one of the many social networking sites. And it’s not just a happy coincidence or some brand aficionado who is doing it for them. Social networking today forms a crucial part of companies' marketing and communication strategies. Having a social media manager is no longer a fad, given that over 50 percent of the world’s population is under 30 years-old and spends the better half of their day on social networking sites. Increasingly, companies are looking for dynamic young people who know their way across the various social platforms and have the ability to communicate well to manage their virtual image. According to Rajiv Dingra, Founder and CEO WATMedia Pvt Ltd, social media in India has taken a serious turn over the years. It’s still at a very nascent stage but more and more companies have started investing their money on social media. He says, “There are 71 million Internet users in India according to the IAMAI (Internet & Mobile Association of India) report in 2009. Approximately 22 million people are active on social media. Looking at these numbers, it’s important to understand that these users would be sharing information about various brands, which could be positive or negative experiences.” He states further, “These users create pages of their favorite brands and start conversations which can be harmful as these won’t be the official presence. Thus, it’s important to have a social media manager who will look into these pages/conversations, will manage them and create official presence of their brands on social media. A social media manager is required also because social media is two–way communication platform, thus enabling users to communicate their feelings about the brand. A crisis situation can be well handled on social media with the presence of a social media manger.”

A Career in Software Testing

If you want to be a part of a dynamic and booming industry, then you might want to look at software testing as a career option. The dynamic Indian IT industry has always lured the brightest minds with challenging career options. Students are also attracted to this field because, apart from getting international exposure, the earnings are usually higher. They also get the satisfaction of being a part of something that could possibly shape the future. One such career option is software testing. Initially, software testing and software development went hand in hand, but now it has emerged as a specialized discipline in itself. The role of a software tester is crucial as they are trained to pick out flaws, if any, in the software. They test the software using various parameters to determine its ease of use, and flow of operation. They check the software for bugs and also determine whether it meets the business and technical requirements. This then helps the developers to iron out even the minutest of errors and save themselves from the embarrassment of a software failure due to a minor flaw. The growth prospects are tremendous. As per Gartner Forecast, the industry will be worth $50 million with forecasted CAGR of 14 percent through 2014. According to Asheesh Raina, Principal Research Analyst, Gartner, “Organizations today have rapid cycles of change on the business front. Software testing is increasingly recognized as the cornerstone of supporting rapidly changing business conditions, making organizations more agile. Testing is important for India because it has a large ecosystem of IT service providers. Poor quality standards will have substantial strategic implications for IT service providers. In a few years, the enterprise, IT organizations and service providers will be distinguished by their quality capabilities (encompassing process and service management). Their position in the top tier will be substantially due to their quality capabilities and failure in that will lead to downtrend.” Professionally trained software testers are in great demand and sought after in the industry. You can either become part of an independent software testing company or join an internal software testing department in a leading firm. We spoke with Vipul Kocher, President of the Indian Testing Board (ITB), to determine the potential of software testing as career.

Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, price & specs unveiled

SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 DESIGN

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is thinner and lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S3
While the S3 looked and felt, well, quite plasticy, the Samsung S4 looks that much nicer and more like the high-end phone that it should be. It has a polycarbonate case, but it's now slimmer (7.9mm) and lighter (130g) than its predecessor.
Two versions of the phone will be available: Black Mist and White Frost. It's hard to pass judgement on the phone until we've seen it in the flesh, but in the shots we've seen it certainly looks like a step up from the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Available in black or white, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is instantly recognisable
SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 SCREEN:
As expected, the Galaxy S4 has a 5in Full HD (1,920x1,080) Super AMOLED screen. That's a stunning 441ppi, making this one of the highest-density phones that we've seen. The HTC One manages slightly more at 468ppi, thanks to its slightly-smaller 4.7in Full HD screen. On balance, though, you're going to find it hard to tell the difference or spot individual pixels on either screen.
There was no mention of the Green PHOLED technology, which was rumoured to be making its first appearance here. However, we've been impressed with Samsung's Super AMOLED technology before and it's always been power efficient, helping to save battery life.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 CAMERAS: Cameras are an important part of any smartphone, with many people preferring them to compact cameras. From the specifications, Samsung hasn't let us down with the Galaxy S4 camera, with a 13-megapixel rear camera, complete with Flash and a high-speed shutter mode. At the front is a 2-megapixel camera.
The 13-megapixel rear camera certainly has impressive specifications, but the front camera can be used to control the phone SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 PROCESSOR The Galaxy S4 will be available with two different types of processor, depending on where you are in the world. There was much hype before the launch about the new 1.6GHz Octa-Core Samsung Exynos 5 chip. The company tweeted a rendering of the new chip, which is also rumoured to power the new Galaxy Note 3 phone/tablet, from its @SamsungExynos Twitter account, so whetting the appetites of Samsung fans everywhere. The new chip's eight-core design is based on ARM's big.LITTLE architecture. This means that there are four powerful Cortex-A15 cores for the phone's most power-hungry functions, and four lower-power Cortex-A7 models to take care of simpler tasks. When the phone isn't needed to do anything fancy, the more powerful cores shut down, extending battery life. However, at the launch Samsung confirmed that the UK version of the phone will have a measly four cores. The good news is that the UK S4's Snapdragon 600 chipset will run at a faster 1.9GHz, which will hopefully go some way to making up for the cores shortfall.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 BATTERY
Speaking of battery life, the new handset will use a 2,600mAh battery. That's 500mAh bigger than the one in the S3 and should be big enough to cope with the slightly-enlarged screen, and the greater demands of 4G, while still running all day. The battery is also removable, so you can carry a charged spare if you're going to be out for a long time. It also means that a failing battery can easily be replaced.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 4G AND WIRELESS
You can't make a modern phone and not support the latest wireless standards, so the Samsung Galaxy S4 has full support for 4G LTE networks. Global 4G support has been promised, supporting download speeds of 100Mbit/s and uploads of 50Mbit/s. Full 3G and 2.5G support is, of course, also present. For use at home there's also better Wi-Fi support, with the new 802.11ac standard supported. We've seen this networking standard deliver speeds well over 200Mbit/s, so using super-fast broadband speeds on your phone at home is going to easy.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 STORAGE
No great surprises on the storage front, with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models announced. However, it's good to see that there's still a microSD card slot, so you can add up to 64GB of storage. Depending on the prices, it may even work out cheaper to buy a lower-capacity model and then upgrade it when you need to with a memory card.

New i Pad Mini Leaked Info : 7-8 Inch screen And Starting @ $199 October Release

Lots of rumors have popped up all around the internet about Apple possibly releasing a iPad Mini. This iPad will have a 7-8 inch screen, which is 3 inches less than the iPad 3. Websites such as JailbreakNation and CENET have been all over the iPad Mini. The planned release for the iPad Mini is this October of 2012. Again these are only rumors however.
A few years back after the release of the iPad Original, and right before the release of the iPad 2, there were lots of questions reagarding a iPad Nano or a smaller iPad. Apple had said that there was no need for a iPad Nano or anything of the kind because of 2 reasons. The iPod Touch and simple because of no need for one with today’s market. However it is possible Apple may have re-thought those words and decided to go ahead and make a smaller iPad. The main reasons for this is because of the release of the Kindle Fire, and the release of the Nexus 7 tablet.
If Apple does plan on releasing an iPad Minni it will be sometime around October. Already some possibil prices have come up and they are estamating that the starting price for an iPad Mini will be at $199 all the way up to $250. There is no news yet on storage options, however it is possible that they may be a 8GB iPad Mini.
Again all this news is all rumors, and everyone will just have to sit back and wait to Apple to do what they do best.

MIT creates to make Invisible Motion Visible -- New Open Source Code

Researchers at MIT have developed a method (Eulerian Video Magnification) to take any video and amplify the small changes that are normally invisible to the naked eye. This methodology is its infancy but it can already accurately measure heart rate just by measuring small differences in skin color. The algorithm matched extremely well with an EKG machine connected to an infant in hospital care. Since they are able to apply this code to any video, they were even able to measure the pulse of Christian Bale in “Dark Knight Rises”, even with the make up on. There seems to be an obvious application in airport security and instantly measuring the pulse of a potential terrorist just by looking at a video. Or by measuring the “micro-expressions” on the face of a perp in interogation. (Link to practice your micro-expression reading – http://www.cio.com/article/facial-expressions-test They have released the MATLAB code for non-commercial use. A link is included at http://people.csail.mit.edu/mrub/vidmag/. When this gets in the hands of the public, there is no telling what interesting uses will surface.

New You'll now receive a warning before an app tries to send SMS messages that may cost you money. Device encryption is now more reliable, and periodically reminds you to decrypt your device. SMS messages and calls are now declined when waiting for decryption. You can long press the ‘Power Off’ option in the power menu to boot your device to safe mode. A new ‘Reset app preferences’ button lets you quickly manage default applications for specific activities, background data restrictions, notification suppression, and more. A redesigned dialog with larger icons lets you intuitively choose your preferred application for specific activities. Google Apps Device Policy on your device may now override the ‘keep screen awake’ option from developer settings. Text-to-speech Jelly Bean introduces a new conversational text-to-speech voice in US English, available as both a network engine and an embedded engine via the TTS API. Voice Typing A new embedded speech recognizer lets you use Voice Typing even when you don't have an Internet connection. Widgets Jelly Bean makes it easier to personalize your home screen. As you place widgets on the screen, everything else automatically moves to make room. When they're too big, widgets resize on their own. If you choose to resize a widget, apps and widgets will now also move out of the way. You can now quickly remove apps or widgets from any home screen by picking them up and flinging them to the edge of the screen. Launching apps and returning back home are now faster and smoother.
